The Idea
Quite a lot of people, mainly veterans believed President Truman decided to drop the atomic bombs on Japan for solely military reasons. Others thought that maybe there were several things involved. If he hadn't just ended the war abruptly like he did, there would be a land invasion of Japan, more lives of innocent people lost(Not saying he didn't do that anyway), and more Americans lives lost. In which he did end the war quickly, it sent soldiers home to their families and allow Americans to get a normal life again. He had somewhat good intentions but at the same time, he did completely wipe out Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Killing over 300,000 Japanese people in an event of only three days.
